Using a frame i picked up in IKEA seven years ago, i created a short series of watercolour painted images of the dreamer breaking out of her fantasy. I used biro and a little fine liner to draw an outline and add detail to the images. I wish i had enough time to develop my painting skill to create shading and more realistic painting of the garden. To develop this i will create some dried poured paint and add it to the end image. I will do this to show how her fantasy has fallen apart and is dripping out as she breaks out.
I wanted to take this picture as my attention was caught by how the light reflected in the plastic. Creating a wavy line across the set of images. It reminds me of moments in films where they show the characters transition as the world changes as they step into a dream or another dimension. I thought it was interesting as the light prevents the viewer from seeing the full image which i have tried with using paint and printing over images. I never thought about using light to cause an interruption. Additionally, the light adds movements as the viewer moves around it.
Using PVA glue and acrylic paint, i created paint drips to add on top of the frame. I decided to stick it on top to add texture. This was influenced by my chosen artist Felix Kalmansen and his rotting film Growth. I really like the layering of the peels and how it drips out. The paint pouring in the last frame doesnt go all the way across as her face is in the way. To improve this i would like to develop this as a whole with my painting skills and more ways i could layer the paint peels on. If i could carry on making more frames , each frame would become more textured as more paint pours out until its reached the floor, creating a puddle.
I took this photo of the end of the frame behind a piece of acetate that i had let ink dry on. Green was the only colour that dried thick enough to see. The acetate blurs the image of the frames and the distraction of the ink means the viewer waits as their eyes adjust to see the details behind it. I really like this as it creates a barrier, showing the dreamers disconnection from reality. As well as how they zone out and watch the world go by. To improve this, i wish i shone a light through to see if the ink would create colourful shadows on the frame. I would also like to produce more colours in the ink on acetate.
