I poured the remainder of the acrylic, water and PVA glue mixture onto the netting. I created this folds by tying the end together. I wanted the folds so the netting was similar to an underskirt with layers that the dancers would be wearing. I wish i filmed the paint dripping on it as i was surprised to see the paint run off as if it was on paper and not holes.
I really like this photo of the netting, alone on a black background. It makes the white pop and look unusual as the background is so clean compared to the netting. Unfortunately, the paint dried a little dull, i think if it was more vibrant it would really add another layer to this photo.
To develop this i would like to try placing the netting differently for different styles of layering it. Additionally, i could paint each layer a separate colour then see how they show through altogether.
I took these photos to see inside the netting whilst the paint was still wet. The way the paint rested as little drops was interesting. I really like how they meet together in the middle, creating a mixture in a white puddle. I could hold the netting in a circular shape like a funnel and pour paint down it to see how it builds up and drips through the holes.
I tried painting different layers of netting like i suggested above as a development. I mixed the paint with PVA glue and water but for some reason the mixtures were different, possibly for using a different type of PVA glue. I believe the mixtures were weaker as the colours were not strong and when drying on acetate the mixture parted like water. Due to this for my next experiment i used a different PVA glue, if that was the case. However, i used it differently so i did not find out.
I painted three separate pieces of netting. The first photo is of the paint against the acetate. The yellow looks liked honey. I think if i used paint instead i could create a stronger colour on the net as well as leave a print on the paper/acetate. As you can see on the next photo the yellow colour is hardly visible but the way how some holes are full like a honey comb intrigued me. If it dried like this its easy to see through so could be layered over other work.
I discovered the blue colour showed up stronger but was still quite vague. When i layered the three colours, red, yellow and blue together on the netting each colour is visible but very subtle. However i quite like this as if i followed through and made a large piece i could double up certain colours in layers to make them stand out more in some areas.
I plan to stick this in my sketchbook and hopefully create a shape or folds in the netting.
I also experimented with lace as white lace is quite delicate and usually associated as old, which shows similar views to how i want to convey the singer who is vulnerable and lost. I painted red onto acetate then placed the lace on top and painted over it. I really like the yellow paint that was on my brush. Its soft within the red and makes me think about a sunset. It could also suggest how love is taking over the singers mind which makes her happy (yellow).
I pulled the lace up then put three dots of white acrylic paint down before placing the lace on top and pressing down so the paint seeped through the holes. This created bumps in the paint and a nice, smooth texture. I would like to recreate this but remove the lace so the paint dries with just the bumps.
I was able to pull up the lace once it dried due to the glue mixture. This showed me the other side where the white paint is smooth and flat. I personally dont like that side but might look better if i had actually painted something. Also i was able to capture bubbles in the paint mixture. I really like this as bubbles are easy to pop and once again are delicate.
I really enjoyed the process of fading the white paint into the red. The way the paint faded and mixed into a light red colour. I wish i took this further on a larger scale so the detail was easier to see. Also so i could pull white paint down in lines and not mix it on top of the faded colour.
