Artist: Zarah Abraham

I came across this artist when looking into movement. She films herself drawing with charcoal and creates the marks by moving her body- dancing on the canvas. The marks captures the movements that she creates when listening to music. I would love to try this to draw the movements of the dancers that i vision. I believe it would be difficult to capture as i am not a dancer but i will definitely try beginning with charcoal and possibly moving onto paint as i would love to see how the colours mix when using my body.     I didnt really explore Abrahams style and incorporate it into my work as much as i wanted to as it was difficult to find a way to combine this style at a large scale with other materials. If i had more time i would of used this as a starting point to explore paint, printing and other materials layered up using my body. I feel this would have been a completely different investigation if i had done this.

Crete: Drawings

I took a sketchbook with me to Crete, on the plane i doodled this out of boredom. Using coloured pens i created random patterns and lines to draw out the front of a girl. Then using black Biro i added outlines and scribbled her hair and over onto the back of the page. To me this shows a process of turning boredom and negative emotions into creativity and art. The scribbles become less and eventually turn into the colourful patterns before fading completely. I really like the idea conveyed in this drawing, however i dont like the basic cartoon style as i think it shows my lack of drawing skills. The whole piece looks like a doodle and a bit messy. Especially with how the scribbles come out of the hair. I think recreating this with paint would create a better outcome. Instead of patterns it would be a strong mix of bright colours that is faded together like a light cloud. Compared to a mix of black and grey at the back with drips and harsh lines. I could also add some delica...

Crete

I found Crete to be a very beautiful and peaceful area. It had a range of picturesque places, that were colourful and soft, as well as run down areas that i found interesting as it shows different compositions of objects and textures. I found myself quite drawn to rough materials, also bright, solid, colours and patterns. This photo i took of the mountains, from the view of the hotel, i found to be very breath taking. The sun was beginning to set creating a soft gradient of blue to pink. To me the mountains dont look real as if it was a backdrop for an old film. With the mix of delicate colours and long distance helped to create a satisfying feeling for me as it appears completely artificial.    Additionally, this photo, taken in the city of  Aglos Nikolaos, of the sea has an incredible strong blue colour creating the majority of the background, making the orange flowers stand out brighter. The colour blue brings a peaceful feel as the photo appears o...
