Installation

In ten minutes i created this piece without preparation and using materials on hand. I used string and metal to represent the roughness and collapsing buildings inspired by Spinalonga and the bareness of the black background. I included some flowers and colourful leaves to create the influence of overgrown wildlife in the visuals.
The bird image appears very out of place as it is a clear image. To me this represents imagination against the black background, showing the isolation and how the singer is filling that void with dreams. In the visuals the only other company the singer has is the dancers, the birds could represent that company or even be singing birds showing the musical connection. Using wire, i hung this from the ceiling, allowing it to spin, like the dancers. I wrapped this piece in string as it prevents the viewer from seeing everything as well as traps the image together, just like the singer is trapped in her dreams.
I really like the outcome of this piece as it is not something i would of thought of if i had time to plan, i have never thought about using random metal bars before even though i have thought about painting on metal. I find the composition interesting as it is all very random and without context this piece makes no sense. However, i am very interested to know what people would think of this piece without context. To improve this i would like to wrap more string around to make it have a stronger impact and actually prevent some areas from being fully viewed. I would also like to drip the string in paint, and pour paint on the string, allowing it to drip. However this may be difficult as it could cover other parts of the background however i plan to try this.
This experiment inspired an idea that could work for a final piece or experiment to try. I like the idea of using a mannequin in a dance position, wearing the undergarment outfit for the dancers and rotating. Or an abstract version where it is just the clothes/fabric hanging in a way that shows motion. They are surrounded by a circle (with a gap between the dancer and string) of string creating a wall. The string would be dipped in paint, allowing it to drip and some of the string drooping across others leaving gaps for the viewer to see, or move the string as if looking through blinds to view the dancer. Also there would be lights on the floor inside the string circle, shining on the dancer. This shows how in her dreams she is in the spotlight and feels important but the string also shows how she is trapped and incredibly isolated from real people and the real world.

Crete: Drawings

I took a sketchbook with me to Crete, on the plane i doodled this out of boredom. Using coloured pens i created random patterns and lines to draw out the front of a girl. Then using black Biro i added outlines and scribbled her hair and over onto the back of the page. To me this shows a process of turning boredom and negative emotions into creativity and art. The scribbles become less and eventually turn into the colourful patterns before fading completely. I really like the idea conveyed in this drawing, however i dont like the basic cartoon style as i think it shows my lack of drawing skills. The whole piece looks like a doodle and a bit messy. Especially with how the scribbles come out of the hair. I think recreating this with paint would create a better outcome. Instead of patterns it would be a strong mix of bright colours that is faded together like a light cloud. Compared to a mix of black and grey at the back with drips and harsh lines. I could also add some delica...

DDTK Canvas Painting + Light

I looked into how light changed the painting on the canvas. I discovered how the light shone through the back, losing the colour in the paint and showing rough brush strokes. The sections of the face that look incredibly light added a sense of loss of form as if the dreamer wasn't really in solid form and disconnected completely. I found that by moving the canvas away from the light, the painting faded similarly showing how the dreamer loses their identity and becoming a ghost.     I also took a video of the light moving in the reflection of the glass, similar to how the light reflected in the plastic frame of the film. I really like how it moves across in a line as if it is wiping the dreamers mind clean. I also like how the gaps between the glass breaks up the line sectioning it yet when looking at the video overall the eyes blur that line into one showing how many things influence dreams, building it up until it overtakes the drea...

PVA Glue Paint Mix

Using a plastic mask, i poured PVA glue in and spread it about in hopes so i could add paint and peel it out afterwards. This PVA glue breaks up the paint when added. I mixed a lot of blue in so the peel would be a deep blue like a deep ocean to express a sad, isolated emotion to convey the dreamer drowning in their mind. I proceeded to add yellow, white, pink and black. The other colours are to represent the other colourful dancers to show how they are still present even if this colour is dominating right now.   I found the movement of the paint spreading incredibly interesting as it instantly began to disperse and lose its colour amongst the blue. Unfortunately, i couldnt get the PVA glue to settle and dry with the black paint present like in the second video as i couldnt set the mask down flat.     Using the edge of a pallet knife, i pulled the white paint out. I really enjoyed doing this and being able to mix the colour in the moment. Again the PVA ...
