Felt Dancer

I bought some felt to experiment with and include the material in some of my work. I decided to try create a little felt dancer inspired by the dancers i took photos off. However, this was more aimed towards my "Dont Delete the Kisses" visual idea. For this idea the dancers would be doing more ballet styled dancing.
It takes a while to build up the felt into a shape but i found a trick to twist the felt into a ball if i was adding it on as it was quicker to make it stay on as well as made it thicker quicker. The skirt was the easiest to make, i like the way i layered different shades of purple and pink to create the skirt. It would be nice to build this up more so it was thicker. Due to the skirt i didnt really focus on creating the legs as they cant really be seen. Originally she was suppose to be doing the splits.
I wasnt able to create the hands or feet as it was difficult to shape and add tiny details. I tried to add features to her face but as this was difficult i think i made her look a little demonic. However, overall for my first try i am quite pleased with this outcome. I would like to try to create a 2D image using felt as that could be easier to add little detail. I want to create a version of Nester Formentera's work this way as creating straight shaping the straight lines would be nice using this material.

Crete: Drawings

I took a sketchbook with me to Crete, on the plane i doodled this out of boredom. Using coloured pens i created random patterns and lines to draw out the front of a girl. Then using black Biro i added outlines and scribbled her hair and over onto the back of the page. To me this shows a process of turning boredom and negative emotions into creativity and art. The scribbles become less and eventually turn into the colourful patterns before fading completely. I really like the idea conveyed in this drawing, however i dont like the basic cartoon style as i think it shows my lack of drawing skills. The whole piece looks like a doodle and a bit messy. Especially with how the scribbles come out of the hair. I think recreating this with paint would create a better outcome. Instead of patterns it would be a strong mix of bright colours that is faded together like a light cloud. Compared to a mix of black and grey at the back with drips and harsh lines. I could also add some delicate sewing

Artist- Mara Light

Whilst looking at Jenna Andersons art i came across the artist Mara Light. Lights work Focuses on young women in rough, aged appearing paintings. The artists creates beautifully detailed paintings of girls that almost look like porcelain dolls, however the painting itself looks rough and marked up with drips in her work. The contrast of perfection and a sense of neglect to the work conveys the women with the feeling of loss and abandonment. Possibly exposing how their lives are not perfect despite their appearance.       Mara Lights work really captures my attention with the texture as well as the emotions conveyed in the work through the women and their body language. They all look hopeless and lost and all have a story of their own. I have pictured myself creating some artwork with a similar style to Lights and now by using Lights work as a preference i have a chance to look at the details in the rough areas to try and recreate as well as add on extra materials for inst
