Artists with Visual and Sounds

Norman McLaren Begone Dull Care- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Wp96uG-N8

Bright colours, different shapes that move with the tempo of the music. Satisfying to watch as well as enchanting. Can begin to blur if not focused which could be good but also lose interest if too long and is unaccompanied by music.

Stan Brakhage:
 Stellar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8r9t135_xY
Commingled Containers- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2I-BA3qqB0

Stellar has beautiful bright colours coupled with empty black, fast movement as if watching space shoot by. Without music or any sound i lose interest and it feels like the same thing throughout. However, the second video despite lack of sound again i find more interesting as the visuals change and i can watch different things grow and change. His use of light and water together interests me as those two elements have so many different possibilities to be used in art. I would like to try and experiment adding different styles of sound to these visuals to help me take more interest and see how they can change the mood when watching.

Use of mold to alter film footage. The blend of multi bright colours was fascinating with the hint of images below. I've always been interested in blend of bright colours and decay. Film was not accompanied by music but the sound of the film crackling as it played was enough as it caught my attention.

Crete: Drawings

I took a sketchbook with me to Crete, on the plane i doodled this out of boredom. Using coloured pens i created random patterns and lines to draw out the front of a girl. Then using black Biro i added outlines and scribbled her hair and over onto the back of the page. To me this shows a process of turning boredom and negative emotions into creativity and art. The scribbles become less and eventually turn into the colourful patterns before fading completely. I really like the idea conveyed in this drawing, however i dont like the basic cartoon style as i think it shows my lack of drawing skills. The whole piece looks like a doodle and a bit messy. Especially with how the scribbles come out of the hair. I think recreating this with paint would create a better outcome. Instead of patterns it would be a strong mix of bright colours that is faded together like a light cloud. Compared to a mix of black and grey at the back with drips and harsh lines. I could also add some delica...

Artist- Mara Light

Whilst looking at Jenna Andersons art i came across the artist Mara Light. Lights work Focuses on young women in rough, aged appearing paintings. The artists creates beautifully detailed paintings of girls that almost look like porcelain dolls, however the painting itself looks rough and marked up with drips in her work. The contrast of perfection and a sense of neglect to the work conveys the women with the feeling of loss and abandonment. Possibly exposing how their lives are not perfect despite their appearance.       Mara Lights work really captures my attention with the texture as well as the emotions conveyed in the work through the women and their body language. They all look hopeless and lost and all have a story of their own. I have pictured myself creating some artwork with a similar style to Lights and now by using Lights work as a preference i have a chance to look at the details in the rough areas to try and recreate as ...

DDTK Canvas Painting + Light

I looked into how light changed the painting on the canvas. I discovered how the light shone through the back, losing the colour in the paint and showing rough brush strokes. The sections of the face that look incredibly light added a sense of loss of form as if the dreamer wasn't really in solid form and disconnected completely. I found that by moving the canvas away from the light, the painting faded similarly showing how the dreamer loses their identity and becoming a ghost.     I also took a video of the light moving in the reflection of the glass, similar to how the light reflected in the plastic frame of the film. I really like how it moves across in a line as if it is wiping the dreamers mind clean. I also like how the gaps between the glass breaks up the line sectioning it yet when looking at the video overall the eyes blur that line into one showing how many things influence dreams, building it up until it overtakes the drea...
