Artists with Visual and Sounds

Norman McLaren Begone Dull Care- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Wp96uG-N8

Bright colours, different shapes that move with the tempo of the music. Satisfying to watch as well as enchanting. Can begin to blur if not focused which could be good but also lose interest if too long and is unaccompanied by music.

Stellar has beautiful bright colours coupled with empty black, fast movement as if watching space shoot by. Without music or any sound i lose interest and it feels like the same thing throughout. However, the second video despite lack of sound again i find more interesting as the visuals change and i can watch different things grow and change. His use of light and water together interests me as those two elements have so many different possibilities to be used in art. I would like to try and experiment adding different styles of sound to these visuals to help me take more interest and see how they can change the mood when watching.

Use of mold to alter film footage. The blend of multi bright colours was fascinating with the hint of images below. I've always been interested in blend of bright colours and decay. Film was not accompanied by music but the sound of the film crackling as it played was enough as it caught my attention.

Crete: Drawings

I took a sketchbook with me to Crete, on the plane i doodled this out of boredom. Using coloured pens i created random patterns and lines to draw out the front of a girl. Then using black Biro i added outlines and scribbled her hair and over onto the back of the page. To me this shows a process of turning boredom and negative emotions into creativity and art. The scribbles become less and eventually turn into the colourful patterns before fading completely. I really like the idea conveyed in this drawing, however i dont like the basic cartoon style as i think it shows my lack of drawing skills. The whole piece looks like a doodle and a bit messy. Especially with how the scribbles come out of the hair. I think recreating this with paint would create a better outcome. Instead of patterns it would be a strong mix of bright colours that is faded together like a light cloud. Compared to a mix of black and grey at the back with drips and harsh lines. I could also add some delica...

Paint Videos

Whilst doing some string pulling experiments with watered down acrylic, i filmed how the water acted and the paint mixed as i thought the movements were intriguing and the process of colour change.    In the first video the colour purple infiltrated the blue water i added to the page and as i lifted the page the way it moved, even danced in the water, was really fascinating and unpredictable.    I was using this paint to cover a face drawing i had drew previously using biro. I decided i didnt like it and would paint thinly over to show how the dreamer feels like she is drowning in her own mind. I feel like how the paint acted, before painting over the face, with the two colours was interesting as if they were performing to attract the dreamer before taking over her whole mind. I would like to film more of colours mixing and moving in water. Even though the paint didnt instantly react to the water being added i really like how the two colours of b...

PVA Glue Paint Mix

Using a plastic mask, i poured PVA glue in and spread it about in hopes so i could add paint and peel it out afterwards. This PVA glue breaks up the paint when added. I mixed a lot of blue in so the peel would be a deep blue like a deep ocean to express a sad, isolated emotion to convey the dreamer drowning in their mind. I proceeded to add yellow, white, pink and black. The other colours are to represent the other colourful dancers to show how they are still present even if this colour is dominating right now.   I found the movement of the paint spreading incredibly interesting as it instantly began to disperse and lose its colour amongst the blue. Unfortunately, i couldnt get the PVA glue to settle and dry with the black paint present like in the second video as i couldnt set the mask down flat.     Using the edge of a pallet knife, i pulled the white paint out. I really enjoyed doing this and being able to mix the colour in the moment. Again the PVA ...
