Sculpture in Clay

Using air dry clay, i created a small sculpture of a dancer sitting on a rock. I liked the idea of creating a small sculpture of the group of dancers sitting on a larger rock. However, i have hardly ever used clay before so thought best to go more simple.
I found it difficult to make the arms and legs, they needed a lot more attention and planning to be realistic. This is the same for facial features as i left that empty. I hadn't quite planned out the dancers position yet when i begun, if i had planned ahead i could of done a more interesting position for her body that would of been more supported. I used a cocktail stick to add support in her entire body, head and into the rock.
Using little beads and gems i stuck them into her skirt to add a design. I decided that i would pour paint on the sculpture to show how in her dreams she feels real and interesting compared to her grey reality. By pouring paint it comes from her head and would not cover all her body.
To develop this sculpture i would plan ahead to create a more interesting composition on the rock. I would also practice and spend more time focusing on her body to make it look more realistic and supported as her legs are incredibly weak. I would also like to create more detail for instance on her dress, make the skirt look more fabric like with layers and creases.
I took a photo of my hand with dry clay on as i found the cracks intriguing as it ties into the cracks i have previously looked into. I could use clay in the background of something if it creates these cracks.
I made the mixture too watery, although the gold was still strong i wanted a thicker mixture to create a stronger drip effect.

I took a photo of this angel that hangs above the mirror in the bathroom amongst the now filled in cracks. I really like this as it is surrounded by elements relevant to my investigation with the cracks, colours and mirror. Additionally, the angel is a dull gold with chips on. It fits perfectly in with being something left abandoned in a ruin.

Crete: Drawings

I took a sketchbook with me to Crete, on the plane i doodled this out of boredom. Using coloured pens i created random patterns and lines to draw out the front of a girl. Then using black Biro i added outlines and scribbled her hair and over onto the back of the page. To me this shows a process of turning boredom and negative emotions into creativity and art. The scribbles become less and eventually turn into the colourful patterns before fading completely. I really like the idea conveyed in this drawing, however i dont like the basic cartoon style as i think it shows my lack of drawing skills. The whole piece looks like a doodle and a bit messy. Especially with how the scribbles come out of the hair. I think recreating this with paint would create a better outcome. Instead of patterns it would be a strong mix of bright colours that is faded together like a light cloud. Compared to a mix of black and grey at the back with drips and harsh lines. I could also add some delicate sewing

Artist- Mara Light

Whilst looking at Jenna Andersons art i came across the artist Mara Light. Lights work Focuses on young women in rough, aged appearing paintings. The artists creates beautifully detailed paintings of girls that almost look like porcelain dolls, however the painting itself looks rough and marked up with drips in her work. The contrast of perfection and a sense of neglect to the work conveys the women with the feeling of loss and abandonment. Possibly exposing how their lives are not perfect despite their appearance.       Mara Lights work really captures my attention with the texture as well as the emotions conveyed in the work through the women and their body language. They all look hopeless and lost and all have a story of their own. I have pictured myself creating some artwork with a similar style to Lights and now by using Lights work as a preference i have a chance to look at the details in the rough areas to try and recreate as well as add on extra materials for inst
