Mark Making

Earlier this week i was doing some spray painting and using a plant pot to stand the object on. Once i had finished i discovered i had created lines on the pot that faded out. I fell in love with the bright colours together and lines they had created. The way the colours faded out together softly into the natural pot reminded me of the ideas i thought of when on the Island of Spinalonga. The ruins and bare bricks with brightly painted colours over the top, or dancers in colourful skirts. Spray painting could be used to create movement in the skirts.     I wanted to focus on mark making and using basic small materials such as string and tape. Using a yellow highlighter, i created random lines on the page and added some small pieces of tape. Then using a piece of string i lay it down creating loops mimicking the shape of a dancers body. Using charcoal i scraped it over the page. I aimed for the charcoal to cover the highlighter but it still showed through so once i removed the

Experimenting with Projector

Using a clear folder wallet to replace the use of acetate, i drew from the image of my canvas painting using a dark green marker pen and a lighter green to add some shading. I also drew from a photo i took of a building on the island of Spinalonga. I like this simple drawing as the lack of border makes it appear as if its a simple illustration in a book. I re drew this in a bigger scale and layered the girl drawing over it. I like the option of layering these images as there are endless possibilities to different materials and compositions.     I wanted to put these two together as the island ruins inspired me by the way it looked rough and abandoned. I adored the textures of the bricks and broken wood, the atmosphere of this place felt right to the visuals and meaning of the song to me. As i walked round i pictured what the buildings looked like when they were being used, picturing the islanders lives. Similar to how in the song the singer goes on about this life she has created i

Painting No Form On Glass

Using two separate pieces of glass i lay them so they crossed over each other and painted an image of two dancers using a small pallet knife and acrylic paints. I wanted to show the paint mixing together in hopes to create movement in the dress however the acrylics didnt work. Instead the colours all merged and looks messy to me as well as i dislike the matte finish. Instead i might try using oil paints and carefully using the pallet knife in a one direction motion so the paint doesnt over mix. I could also use a gloss to help finish and get rid of the dry matte finish.    To develop this further i like the idea of doing a bigger version of this using multiple pieces of glass hanging from the ceiling so when the viewer stands directly in front they see the image all together. Furthermore, i would shine a light on the painting to create a shadow on the wall behind. It would be interesting to experiment with different coloured lights and possibly moving lights to see if the moving

DDTK Canvas Painting

As i wanted to get back into my painting i had a go at one on a canvas. For my first attempt i am quite pleased with how this has turned out. I feel like i did the shading quite well as it is not patchy. I did find it difficult as i pictured the girls skin to be pale white so adding tone to the skin was hard to do. I dislike the eyes the most as they are different sizes despite the fact that i measured them, i also find it difficult to add tiny details to the eyes. I think next time i could try using colouring pencils in order to build up different shades of colour and dark and light tones. I want to improve my painting skill so i could re do this painting and make her look less cartoon like. and add some rough, colourful paint strokes to add some texture.     I wanted to paint this girl as i visualise this shot for a music video idea for the song "Dont Delete The Kisses" by Wolf Alice. In this video there would be a short shot of a close up of this girls face where sh

Artists with Visual and Sounds

Norman McLaren Begone Dull Care- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Wp96uG-N8    Bright colours, different shapes that move with the tempo of the music. Satisfying to watch as well as enchanting. Can begin to blur if not focused which could be good but also lose interest if too long and is unaccompanied by music. Stan Brakhage:  Stellar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8r9t135_xY Commingled Containers- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2I-BA3qqB0       Stellar has beautiful bright colours coupled with empty black, fast movement as if watching space shoot by. Without music or any sound i lose interest and it feels like the same thing throughout. However, the second video despite lack of sound again i find more interesting as the visuals change and i can watch different things grow and change. His use of light and water together interests me as those two elements have so many different possibilities to be used in art. I would like to try and experiment adding different styles of

Felt Dancer

I bought some felt to experiment with and include the material in some of my work. I decided to try create a little felt dancer inspired by the dancers i took photos off. However, this was more aimed towards my "Dont Delete the Kisses" visual idea. For this idea the dancers would be doing more ballet styled dancing.     It takes a while to build up the felt into a shape but i found a trick to twist the felt into a ball if i was adding it on as it was quicker to make it stay on as well as made it thicker quicker. The skirt was the easiest to make, i like the way i layered different shades of purple and pink to create the skirt. It would be nice to build this up more so it was thicker. Due to the skirt i didnt really focus on creating the legs as they cant really be seen. Originally she was suppose to be doing the splits.      I wasnt able to create the hands or feet as it was difficult to shape and add tiny details. I tried to add features to her face but as this was dif

Crete: Drawings

I took a sketchbook with me to Crete, on the plane i doodled this out of boredom. Using coloured pens i created random patterns and lines to draw out the front of a girl. Then using black Biro i added outlines and scribbled her hair and over onto the back of the page. To me this shows a process of turning boredom and negative emotions into creativity and art. The scribbles become less and eventually turn into the colourful patterns before fading completely. I really like the idea conveyed in this drawing, however i dont like the basic cartoon style as i think it shows my lack of drawing skills. The whole piece looks like a doodle and a bit messy. Especially with how the scribbles come out of the hair. I think recreating this with paint would create a better outcome. Instead of patterns it would be a strong mix of bright colours that is faded together like a light cloud. Compared to a mix of black and grey at the back with drips and harsh lines. I could also add some delicate sewing
