Space Cadet Evaluation

This investigation helped me explore and grow confidence in expressing my feelings about maladaptive daydreaming. Truthfully, I still distanced myself by using visuals with the dreamer representing another person, to show how this daydreaming effect many people. My project started with looking into dancing as my visuals showed a group of dancers that represented different emotions that the dreamer was experiencing. Mainly anxiety about connecting with reality. These visuals were complete with a setting of ruins and overgrown nature (influenced by my trip to Spinalonga) to show the absence of life and how the dreamer is trapped in their dreams due to anxiety. The majority of my project I feel is more abstract which works as I am exploring something not grounded in reality. However, I wish I had created a few pieces based on my original small paintings to show the visuals, as for a maladaptive daydreamer, the dreams are more real and strong. Furthermore, by exploring more abst

Final Piece Pt.2

I used the artificial flowers and broken glass to hang from the ceiling. I wrapped them in wire and used a hot glue for more support. I hung them from hooks with the long spike flower in the middle as i view that one as the most poisonous as it does not deceive the dreamer by looking colourful. Its just hidden amongst the other flowers. I wanted to hang these from the ceiling to act as a dream catcher. The broken glass represent the sharp barrier the dreamer makes to protect them self from the anxiety in the real world.      A friend of mine said that the installation looks like a waterfall which i thought was interesting due to its sharp nature. Additionally, how waterfalls are peaceful and feed the plants around them as water is needed to grow. In the term of dreaming the waterfall could represent triggers that feed into the daydream. To develop this i need to consider a way to conceal the installation to create a barrier. I could use purple or blue fabric that is very transluc

Final Piece Process

I decided to use a circular piece of wood for my canvas as the wood represents the wildlife taking over in the dream and also consist of a dull colour showing the ruins in my visuals. Additionally, the circle was to represent the world created in the dreamers mind, instead of being a sphere like the actual Earth, its flat to convey how it isn't real. Furthermore, i like the idea of the viewer to be able to spin the wood to blur the image to convey the confusion and spiral down into constant daydreaming to escape anxiety. This was inspired by the ballet dancers i looked at, particularly a drawing i did from a birds eye view to show the circular motion of the skirts when spinning. However, as i have no experience in making my art kinetic after looking into ways to making the piece spin i thought it was best to develop it differently. I plan to paint the eyes of the dreamer on this to show how they are trapped inside their world as well as show how intimate their dream is without

Paint Pouring on Flowers

For my final piece i bought artificial flowers to use to create a dream catcher to hang in front of the wood canvas. I decided to use artificial flowers to convey how dreams are not real but also how a dream doesnt die for a manipulative dreamer. I chose the spiky flowers as well as i remember seeing similar plants in Crete that i took a photo of. This plant doesnt look gentle, welcoming even. It difficult to touch showing this guard that the dreamer put up to protect them self from their day stress.    I decided to pour paint on the flowers in the same colours on the wooden circle to represent the emotions of the dreamer that take over their reality and create their dreams. Originally, i wanted to pour paint on them in a way where the drips would dry whilst falling from the plant. However, i did not have the resources to make that happen as well as decided it would be too heavy on the plants, covering them too much. Again i wanted the blue and purple colour to dominate or be

Development of Felt Doll

When working on my last sketchbook, instead of washing off left over paint i used a pallet knife to scrape it onto a scrap piece of paper. This started with the colours blue and green, then added a layer of purple. Lastly i was able to add yellow, red and black. I was worried about covering up too much of the white gaps as i liked the negative space between the paint lines that also showed the paint fading.    However, i now have this contrast of the black and red corners compared to the other more empty side. I believe this shows the downfall into daydreaming constantly. The empty side shows the appeal of dreaming with the bright colours and empty gaps representig a space to breathe. Then the dreamer falls down into the fuller side where the dreaming begins to take control as the colours turn darker with black and red.     To develop this i would recreate this on a canvas and do a series showing the same colour combination but try different ways of creating it. Such as pouring
